Manchester United striker Anthony Martial is currently sparking some transfer rumors and has been strongly linked with an exit from Old Trafford in recent weeks. Martial has had mixed moments every season since he signed for the Red Devils back in the summer transfer window of 2015 under the club’s former manager Louis van Gaal. Since then, he has continued the trend of having one good season and not living up to expectations in the next.

In the just-concluded season, the French striker ended the Premier League campaign win only four goals to his name. Although he was largely out with injures for most of the campaign, he was also underperforming when he played. He missed a couple of chances and failed to convert opportunities to add to his goal tally.

He did earn himself a call-up to the France national teams squad but had to pull out through yet another injury. In the 2019-20 season, Martial was, alongside Marcus Rashford, the best player at Manchester United and scored almost 30 goals in all competitions for the Red Devils but his form dipped drastically and he was unable to replicate that beast mode that saw him find the back of the net almost at ease two seasons ago.

Several pundits have called on the Red Devils manager Olé Gunnar Solksjær to let go of the former AS Monaco forward and sign a more proven striker if he wants to increase his chances of winning the English Premier League title next season. Although United signed Edison Cavani on a free transfer last season, they are reportedly still going to bring in more attackers at the club and that could spell the end of Martial’s career at Old Trafford.

Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur is the first-choice candidate on United’s list of targets they want to sign this summer as Martial’s potential replacement.
