Sir Alex Ferguson reckons that Jose Mourinho was excellent with his management the previous season because he gave the right amount of importance to the competitions.

The previous season was a double title season for the Red Devils as they got to put their hands on the League Cup as well as the Europa League title.

Ferguson is of the view Europa League was the more important title out of the two as there was some reward attached to the title and the reward was an automatic entry into European Cup.

As per Ferguson, this automatic entry system has increased the significance of Europa League. The coaches are now taking the competition very seriously and are going full throttle for the title because the European Cup ticket comes with it.

It was the same reason why Mourinho paid a lot of emphasis on Europa League as well because he knew that if he could get his side to the title in Europa League, they would get to European Cup anyway irrespective of where they end up in the English Premiership.

So he didn’t look to experiment with his squad or rotate his squad in any of the matches of Europa League. In fact after reaching a stage where he understood that there was no chance for United to clinch the Premiership, he started saving his best squad for Europa League matches only.

This is not the first time Ferguson has hailed the methods and approach of Mourinho. The two have actually been showing great mutual respect towards each other since the time the latter has taken the reigns at Old Trafford.

United supporters around the globe would hope that Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford also proves to be as long and as successful as that of Ferguson.
